League billiards grows apace. The latest departure in this department being a Shop Assistants' League in Leeds. For some years most of the leading business houses have had "friendly" matches. Nine houses have entered, as follows: Boots and Co., Hope Bros., Bridge's, Grand Pygmalion, Smith Bros; Owen and Robinson's, Peacock's, Hardy and Co; and Denby and Spink. Eighty members have been registered. As an instance of the interest taken, I heard of one house who were very anxious to enter, but were one short of the requisite number to make up a team. They therefore enlisted the services of one of their lady assistants, who is rather good at the game. Much interest was taken in her debut, but as the team has since discovered that the errand boy plays a good game, they have decided for the greater and grosser pleasure of winning to play the latter.
