Macclesfield Billiards League

The Macclesfield & District Billiards League is now in its eighth season and this season has dropped from 8 teams (our ideal number) to six. Additionally, the number of young players has reduced significantly, with the memory of the first season's winners' average age of 17 now only a fond recollection. We will, however, continue to make strenuous efforts to improve this situation.

Fortunately, the overall picture is much happier. The players are all enjoying their Billiards, with the moving handicap system (down 5 points for a win, up 5 for a defeat) proving such a resounding success that, in all previous seasons, the league winners (and sometimes the runners-up) have not been decided until the final match. In addition, the knock-out cup has certainly added to the fun.

On the social side, our annual fund-raising events have proved popular and ensured that our finances are healthy! Having successfully had raffles, a 60's night and a Billiards exhibition (by Peter Shelley), this season we are repeating last year's Sports Quiz. We look forward with optimism!
