All Ireland Championships

The All-Ireland Championships for Snooker and Billiards took place in Letterkenny, Ireland on Saturday 28th September. The Billiards event matched the respective National Champions with Eugene Hughes representing the Republic and Paddy Donnelly for the North. The match looked to be a foregone conclusion for Hughes as he move to within four points of game with Donnelly trailing sixty points behind. But with one last effort, Donnelly clinched the title with an unfinished run of 64!

Billy Mills Memorial

The Windsor Rec on the Lisburn Road, was the venue for the final stages of the Billy Mills Memorial Billiards competition on Sunday 22nd September. Eight players contested a round-robin format of 40 minute games on four tables, with Colin Mylchreest emerging victorious after beating all his seven opponents.

Colin got off to a good start when he defeated J. V. McLaughlin, docked 50 points for being late, by 141 points. He also had the only century break of the day (101) in his match with Sammy Currie, having previously set the big break standard for the season with an excellent 158 in the qualifying round the previous week. The tournament was sponsored by the host club and A. McClean, bookmakers with all the last eight players receiving cash prizes.
