Newcomers to the sport, Gaywood Conservatives "B" won the Summer billiards League from West Acre "D" who were runners-up. All games were handicapped and played over 45 minutes. Half of those who were participating in the League were playing their first ever competitive billiards. The highest 45 minutes aggregate of 438 came from Phil Welham who also made the League's best break with 77.
The new season opened with a sparkling performance from Newmarket's Jim Chambers. Playing against last season's champions, Mid-Norfolk, he produced breaks of 140, 122, 56 and 51 to defeat Jim Temple.
Seventeen year-old Adrian Hubbard (Swaffham) won the first division title in the Nar Beck Individual Billiards League finishing just half a point in front of runner-up Rickie Easter (West Acre). Calvin Daws set a new League record with a 30 minute aggregate score of 187, while Darren Noble's 52 took the prize for the highest break. Division two was won by 11 year-old Bruce Welham with Jason Drake, also eleven, from Castle Acre, finishing runner-up. The League attracted an entry of 25 local youngsters in the two divisions.
The first Billiards competition of the season was held at the Woodside Club, Norwich on 6th October. This was an invitation competition played as a two-man team event with both players in separate groups. Winners were Colin McCarthy and Gary Lewis, Runners up were Ian Dennis and Jamie Edwards. The prize for the highest break went to John Carman for break of 73.
Calvin Daws had previously won the Junior Billiards Handicap on 1st September having played well all day. He defeated Bruce Welham in the final and beat another fancied player, Jamie Edwards, by just 20 points in an earlier round.
