The Norfolk Billiards and Snooker Association's Junior Billiards Championship was run at The Maltings Q Club, Kings Lynn on Sunday 26th May. This event attracted a good turn-out with 19 players ranging from 11-17 years of age.
The two pre-tournament favourites made it through to the final and in a closely fought battle 15 year-old Jamie Edwards edged out Calvin Daws by 33 points to take the title. Edwards had played well throughout the day and made several good totals, his best score being 406 in an hour (which wouldn't be bad for a senior player) and making several 30 and 40 breaks. In the semi-finals Calvin Daws came through a titanic battle with Gavin Lewis, winning by just 22 points. Jamie Edwards was just a bit too strong for Gareth Mears winning comfortably in the end.
Two players to watch for the future are Ben Lewis and Amar Kumar. Neither have been playing long, in fact Kumar played his first Billiards game the night before the tournament and both did exceptionally well to get as far as the quarter-finals. Maltings Club manager Annette presented the trophies at the end of a good day and commented that she was very impressed with the lads on and off the table and also impressed with the enthusiasm which is so obvious.
