Twelve year-old Dominic Mulhall had one of the best wins in his short career when he eliminated one of England's best senior players, Geoff Charville, in the third round of the Individual Billiards Handicap. Receiving 110 points in a match of 270-up, Mulhall had been overtaken by Charville, but showed great character by running out with an unfinished break of 40 to snatch victory by 16 points. He later proved that this result was no fluke by also defeating Charville in the League, playing a level game of 120-up. A feat which very few senior players have achieved in recent years.
Playing at his home club of Hemlington SC, Mark Hatton set the League's high break target with a run of 117 unfinished in his game of 120-up against North Ormesby Institute. His opponent, a substitute player from the club's darts team, scored fourteen points.
Playing for Eston & California, Darren Kell started the season in good form, making century breaks in two of his first three games of the new season. Even so, his run of 109 against Dave Ramsey (Grangetown) was not enough to overcome the handicap points and he lost the game 200-190.
