Teams from East Sussex, West Sussex, Kent and Surrey played at the Woking Snooker Centre in this annual event which was won by the West Sussex squad of Dave Lilly, Maurice Wickens, Colin Nicholson and Richard Sandell. They were unbeaten in the round robin event making a total aggregate of 3267 points. They were followed by Surrey on 3117, Kent on 2445 and East Sussex on 2335. Best performance of the day went to Richard Sandell (W. Sussex) who recorded a high break of 92, in his 298-206 win over Chris Ross (Surrey).
The Worthing team were also West Sussex league champions where Richard Sandell recorded the highest break 130 and what is believed to be the best ever performance in requiring just four visits to the table for his 200 points against mid-Sussex.
Worthing's New Central and Chichester's Triangle Clubs were again host to Frank Sandell Coaching Schools this year, which have now involved over 2,000 young people aged from 6-17 years over the last 20 years. Each course is graded to suit age and experience of the participants and covers various coaching methods at both billiards and snooker together with alternative practice games. A little history, again with an emphasis on billiards and its development. Explanations of cue, table and cloth manufacture. Rules knowledge/refereeing and a round robin competition. A quiz sheet, again graded, is sent home with each participant on the second of the three day course and points earned contribute to finding the ultimate winner. In this way the ultimate winner is not necessarily the best player more likely the most interested! So far this season one of the best performances has been from 7 year old Bradley Beadle who on the novice course had a 20 break at snooker, 16 at billiards
