Derbyshire Billiards Championship

Darley Dale's Jim McCann retained his title as Derbyshire Amateur Billiards Champion in the recent one-day event at the NE Derbyshire Snooker Centre in Clay Cross.

In the quarter-finals he defeated Colin Routledge of Derby by 331 to 149, with breaks of 66 and 88. Fellow Whitworth player Malcolm Gregory was his opponent in the semi-final. Once again McCann gave a consistent performance with runs of 62 and 91 to win comfortably 390-151.

David Rees provided a sterner test in the final, holding the lead for most of the game. McCann however, rose to the occasion and with late breaks of 62 and 49 came home by 291-242. He received the Herbert Beetham Trophy and the high break prize for his 91. This was McCann's tenth win in this Championship.
