Cue Test Series

The Billiards & Snooker Association of Sri Lanka played hosts to the South Indian State of Tamil Nadu when they conducted the inaugural Sri Lanka vs. Tamil Nadu Billiards & Snooker Test Series 2000 in Sri Lanka. The three test series, each test comprising of 3 matches of snooker (best of 7 frames) and 2 matches billiards (best of 5, 150-up), were played in three different locations in Sri Lanka.

The first test, played at the luxurious Grand Hotel in the hill country station of Nuwara Eliya, saw the Sri Lanka team emerge winners by 3 matches to 2. Sri Lanka National Billiards Champion, K. H. Sirisoma, overcame stiff opposition from Tamil Nadu's M. Jaiganesh to beat him 3-1 in Billiards, whilst the 1999 National Champion Henry Boteju lost to Prem Prakash of Tamil Nadu by 3-0. In the Snooker matches both Sri Lanka National Champion, Susantha Boteju and runner-up Mohamed Aslam were winners, whilst K. Ranjan took the only snooker victory for Tamil Nadu.

The second test was held at the Garden Club, Kandy which saw Sri Lanka win by 4 matches to 1.

The third and final test, along with the awards ceremony, was played at the famous century old Galle Face Hotel, Colombo, which gave a touch of the old charm and colonial taste to the occasion. Sri Lanka lost the final test by 3 matches to 2 with only Susantha Boteju & Naresh Samarawickrama winning their snooker matches whilst the much fancied K. H. Sirisoma & veteran K. V. W. Jayasekera both lost their billiards matches to Prem Prakash and Loganathan Rajasekeran of Tamil Nadu. Sri Lanka's Mohamed Aslam also lost his snooker match to M. Jaiganesh.

The Championship Trophy, which was donated by the Tamil Nadu Billiards & Snooker Association, was presented to the Sri Lanka team. Report: Mohan Silva (Admin. Sec; B&SA of Sri Lanka)
