Norfolk Junior Billiards Handicap

Jason Thorpe (North Walsham) won the event from a closed entry of sixteen players. The competition took place at, and was very generously sponsored by, the Woodside Snooker Centre in Norwich. The contest was a great success with manly close games and all the handicapping proved to be accurate.

Thorpe defeated the favourite David Wells (16) from Fakenham by just 4 points in the first round and followed this with another good victory over Gary Lewis (16) in the semi´s. Twelve-year-old Arron Spencer reached the final from the other side of the draw, before losing to Thorpe 244-239 in the one hour final.

Spencer was chosen as the most improved player on the day, and received a cue and case from Mr. Fred Ellis of Woodside SC for his achievement.

Development of the junior game is progressing very well in Norfolk and it is anticipated that some 50 juniors will be undergoing coaching by the new year, with a target of 100 for the millennium.
