2017/18 EABA UK Seniors (Over 50’s) – Welham’s Special Delivery

Cue Ball Club, Derby, 23/24th September 2017

Twice English Amateur Champion Phil Welham added the UK Seniors Championship to his portfolio, being unbeaten throughout, sealing the final with a break of 107 and a tournament best of 157.  Norfolk based postman Welham beat the defending champion Dave Sneddon (Scotland) in a good semi final by 288-209, Welham having breaks of 87 and 61 to Sneddon’s 77.
Brian Harvey made the final by beating Teessider Ron Bickerdike who played well throughout. In his run to the final Harvey (who is now 80 years old!) made a number of good scores and breaks but had no answer f.or Welhams scoring power and break making, the final score being 517 to 85.

The plate final saw Tommy Hunter from Northern Ireland make breaks of 61 and 63 in beating Bradford’s Steve Kershaw by 306-135, Jamie Wayman and Steve Stokes making the semi finals of a great weekend’s billiards.

Tournament director was Clive Scott, with referees Martin O’Reilly, Chris Hudson, Bob Slee, Phil Brooke and John Squires. The EABA would like to thank all at the Cue Ball Club for their support.

UK Senior Billiards Championship – Sneddon beats Duggan

5th/6th December 2015 – Cueball Club, Derby.

In a final refereed by John Squires, Dave Sneddon took the title, holding off Mersey-sider Eddie Duggan in the final. Earlier, Duggan had a great win over Phil Welham who had a 103 break in an earlier round, Dave Rees just missing a ton with a 99. Jim McCann took the plate from Arthur Winn, Peter Cooper officiating.

The Jock McGregor Senior Billiards International

Saturday/Sunday 21st/22nd March 2015, Reading Rooms, Bangor, Northern Ireland.

England overcame a first day deficit of 16-20 to win the senior international 40-32. Back after a few years out were Sammy Clarke and Tony Buttimer who played well with 121 & 78 breaks in beating Brian Harvey and Norman Whaley had a noteable win over Jim McCann. The second day saw the result go to the last 6 matches with Dave Rees finding form to beat Tony Buttimer, Bill Andress taking a point and Eddie Fielding winning to set up the victory. Results to follow.

Tournament director Clive Scott ran a tight ship, ably assisted by Bob Slee, Martin O’Reilly, Tim Godolphin and Joe Graham.

UK Seniors Championships – 27th/28th September 2014, Derby

Peter Shelley came through a strong field to take the UK senior crown at the Cueball club in Derby. Jack McLaughlin was the finalist, making a string of good scores aqnd breaks on the way to the final, including a 127 and 89 breaks in a good group win against Dave Sneddon. Norman Whaley won the plate event from Eddie Fielding.
