2017/18 Four Nations International Tournament – Unbeaten Duo Lead England Home

Vienna, Austria, 18/19 Nov. 2017

At the overnight stage England led 25 to Northern Ireland’s 19, with Austria and the Republic of Ireland tied on 14 points, a strong last session win of 7-1 saw England moving clear at half way. England went into the last session of the match with the lead eroded to a slender two point lead over holders Northern Ireland. However, an imperious clean sweep of 8 points in that session saw the team home to reclaim the four nations trophy by a margin of 10 points.

The unbeaten Chris Taylor and Rob Hall were top points scorers, with Mark Graham, Gary Norman and Steve Crosland dropping only a single game each, debutants Adam Clarke and Chris Achilles backed up back by veteran Eddie Fielding all made solid contributions to a good team win. Hall made the highest break with a 196, Norman also making a ton when it mattered in the crucial last session and ‘Tinker’ Taylor made some good breaks and big scores along the way.
Proud hosts Austria topped their impressive and enthusiastic organisation by confirming their upward rise in smashing their previous record points tally of 20 by taking joint 3rd place with the Republic of Ireland on 26 points. England’s final total was 51 points, 10 clear of previous winners Northern Ireland.
